//Foreword// Monarkiet joined the ambiance-group for the Norberg festival in Sweden, together with local Århus crew Who’s IN? and some nice peoples from Kolding Design School. We at Monarkiet took the task of creating a lounge-like area where the festival people could sit and enjoy the spectacular scenery at the old iron ore mines in Norberg.  With virtually no budget, we looked for things that everybody has lying around their homes and that no longer are of any use. That’s how the idea of re-using plastic bags came up. //Project//  The plastic rugs are made out of 6 layers of used* plastic bags. The plastic bags are joined together using an iron and baking paper, which gives the smooth thin plastic bags a thik leather-like touch once they’re melt together. The final layer is a random patchwork of different colors and logos from the many types of plastic bags we collected. Along with the rugs where a series of lamps made to light up the picnic site at night time. Basically it was old lamps wrapped in plastic, with a frame at the top and bottom creating a cubic shell around the lamp. Only during night time would the content of the cubes be visible, revealing the old lamps inside.

* ok ok we admit having to ask lokal shops in Århus and Norberg for a handful of plastic bags simply because we didn’t have as many plastic bags lying around our homes as we initially thought. So it is not completly a case of re-using, but you get the point. A great thanks to all the shops who was willing to help us with the project by sponsoring us with the plastic bags: Shops in Århus: Frelsens Hær Genbrug Skøn Eventyrsport Holte Vin  Gaffa Shop Vignoble Surface Panduro Designer Torvet Dengang  Inch Soho Krukker  Bo Bendixen Støy & Munkhom  Shops in Norberg: Coop Systembolaget Interflora Flügger Farver ICA Röda Kors Gänbrug ——>External Link http://www.norbergfestival.com/
